Righteousness is A Nature

Updated: Feb 6, 2022

In the same way, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” ~Galatians 3:6 NLT Why was Abraham righteous? did he do something? mind you the Law of Moses wasn't yet active during Abraham's time. He was counted as righteous because of his faith. He believed God. In the same way, we as Christians are counted as righteous because we believe God. Not because of our works. I love how the book of Romans gives such a remarkable exposé of how we are made right with God. The amount of people trying to be made right with God out there is startling, if only they knew that all it takes is simply believing God. Believing he accomplished what he says he accomplished through sending his Son. A Pastor I love listening to, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome defines righteousness as, " The nature of God that when imparted to the human spirit produces the righteousness of God." I love it! Righteousness is a nature, God's nature. It's God's 'DNA' and as his children that he gave birth to (spiritually-- hence the term born again) we also have that DNA. We became reborn when we believed the message of Christ, we got the nature of God when we got born again.

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. ~ James 1:18 KJV

They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. ~ John 1:13 NLT

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. ~ 1 Peter 1:23 KJV

God is a righteous God, and for one to be termed righteous then he has to meet God's standard of righteousness, which is humanly impossible. God provided a means for us to be righteous, he did this by sending Jesus so that whoever believes can have righteousness imparted to their spirit.

I remember how overwhelmed with gratitude I was when I finally let this sink, I am righteous because of my faith in Christ Jesus. I have received the Holy Spirit, not because I did any works, but because I have believed the Gospel, the message of Christ.
